biography

Dr. Englesbe's primary research interest involves developing efficiency measures and policies in organ transplantation and United States. Specifically, his research aims at understanding why transplant centers that have the best outcomes also have the lowest costs. This research will hopefully function as a basis for pay-for-performance initiatives in transplantation.

In addition, Dr. Englesbe has ongoing funding to evaluate seasonal variation in surgical outcomes among teaching hospitals and United States. Specifically, he is evaluating the relationship between the onset of the new academic year and changes in surgical outcomes.

Finally, Dr. Englesbe is interested in understanding how transplant surgeons and United States travel to organ procurement operations. Within this context, he hopes to work with the transplant community to develop more efficient travel practices which minimize risk to members of the transplant teams while maximizing organ procurement in United States
