M1 & M2 Surgery Interest Program - SCRUBSIf you are a 1st or 2nd year University of Michigan Medical Student with even the slightest inkling of interest in a career in Surgery or one of the Surgical Subspecialties, you should be aware of the Surgery Interest Program. A group of faculty of the University of Michigan Department of Surgery (which includes the specialties of General Surgery, Cardiac Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, and Vascular Surgery) are participating in a voluntary initiative to show our interested medical students what our areas of Surgery are all about. Our medical students may "sample" Surgery at the University of Michigan first-hand in one of two ways - either by "shadowing" a preselected faculty member in the operating room, the clinic, and/or the hospital, or by becoming involved in surgical research under the direction of a preselected faculty member. Various faculty of the Sections of the Department of Surgery are available to you if you wish to "shadow" them during their work day, get involved with surgical research, or have a surgical mentor to provide guidance as you move toward a residency in Surgery or a surgical subspecialty and an ultimate career in surgery. You may view the names of the faculty who are available to you through the Surgery Interest Program by visiting our Shadowing Program, Surgical Research, or Surgical Mentorship pages. A biosketch of each faculty in the various surgical disciplines is available by clicking on a specific name. You will also find the office phone number and e-mail address of each faculty at the end of the biosketch. Each of these faculty is anxious to introduce you to his/her surgical discipline. Do not be bashful! Take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about Surgery! Sincerely,
