Chandu Vemuri, M.D.
Undergraduate: Johns Hopkins University Medical School: University of Michigan Academic Development: Targeted Gene Therapy Dr. Vemuri is currently working on the use of a novel bacteriophage-adenovirus (AAVP) delivery construct to selectively deliver genes. The delivery system is unique in that it does not elicit an immune response and is targeted to specific cells of the tumor vasculature. His projects have included the delivery of cytotoxic genes as well as genes that cause infected cells to produce and secrete cytotoxic substances. This work has been carried out in-vitro and in murine models. Clinical trials have been designed and will be accruing patients within the next few years. Mentor: Dr. Steven K. Libutti, MD. Insititution: National Cancer Institute. |
