Division of Minimally Invasive Surgery

Minimally invasive surgery employs emerging technologies to perform operations through several small incisions. A camera, or videoscope, and specialized instruments are inserted through these tiny openings, eliminating the need for a large, conventional incision. The focus of the Division of Minimally Invasive Surgery is the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and defects effecting the abdomen, abdominal wall and retroperitoneum. Common conditions treated with minimally invasive techniques include:

  • Gastroesophagel Reflux Disease (GERD) / Heartburn
  • Obesity
  • Hernia
  • Diverticular/Colon and Rectal Disease and Colon and Rectal Cancer
  • Gall Stones or Gallbladder Inflammation
  • Esophageal Disorders / Achalasia

Surgeons in the Division of Minimally Invasive Surgery apply laparoscopic, endoluminal, robotic and incisionless surgical techniques to the management of surgical diseases. Minimally invasive procedures reduce risk and improve patient care by resulting in faster recovery periods and shorter hospital stays.
